The SC3 SmartCarb replaces the stock Honda CR500 carburetor.
This isn’t your grandpa’s carburetor. The All-New SmartCarb SC3 brings carburetion firmly into the 21st century. I’ve got all the bits together now. Great news for me, the overall length is good, so everything fits.
So I put it together, supplied fuel and away it went. Without any adjustments at all it starts first kick, idles well, and runs smooth through the rev range – in particular tidying it up in the lower mid/transition to powerband.
Or to summarize: it did all the things I expected it to do.
Many thanks for your help, I’m really impressed with SmartCarb as a company. The direct communication with someone in the know is absolutely perfect. I’ll almost certainly be getting another one for my 250 and with my big mouth I’ll probably talk a few more New Zealanders into buying one.

After a couple months of riding in some pretty big elevation and temperature changes I gotta say I’m pretty impressed with the new SC2 on my CR500 powered Husky. It’s truly been a set it and forget it part for this bike.
These SmartCarbs have come a long way since the old APT stuff. I owned an old billet APT 38mm a few years ago and had a really hard time with dialing it in and getting it to run the same every time I jumped on the bike. That’s not the case at all with the SC2.
I can’t wait to try it on a snow bike setup now.
